585 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Milk Run
Location: Captain's R & R Room

[on]

James was going over reports when a Call from Admiral Jonas appeared on the screen. James looked at the screen as the door chime went off, and he said, "Come." While the Admiral waited to see who had entered the ready room, James said, "Ah, Commander Stewart, what is his status report?"

"Please call me Rochelle's husband, I am more Klingon than you think. Ahhh... Admiral Jonas, nice to see you again. Engineering reports are ready to go, the bridge is readjusting to the controls again; for the most part, it would be assumed we are ready to go.

=/\= Ah, I am pleased to see you both in good health,=/\= replied the Admiral looking back at both of them, he continued, =/\= After that last fiasco, that shall never happen again,=/\= as he leaned forward, he stated =/\=the reason I am calling is to give you your next assignment,=/\=

James looked back at his wife for a moment and replied, "Thank you, Admiral, for your kind words," as he hoped this would not be a mission like the last one. He asked, "So, Admiral, what is our next Mission?"

She looked first at James, then back to Adm. Jonas. "Ready to go. Out with it and don't stop to pretty it up" Katana sai, smiling. And she stood there waiting for the bombshell to drop.

The Admiral replied =/\= Your Orders are to take a complement of Cadets to Avalon station for the new Academy there=/\= Glancing back at James who sat quietly listening to the orders that he was being given, the Admrail continued =/\= Along the way they are to be trained by your teams and get some hands-on experience of ship life,=/\= as he finished speaking.

James replied," But Sir, I do not have a Chief Engineer at present," having Kord departed shortly after returning to port, he continued, " I'd rather not leave port without one," as he wanted someone experienced in the Engine room to teach his or her group of cadets. James looked back at his wife, who rolled her eyes upwards.

Admiral Jonas responded, "=/\= Leave that with me, Captain, Jonas out=/\= As the Admiral closed the channel, James asked her, " So, what do you think?"

"Well ...first, I'm not happy with ferrying a boatload of children. Then I don't think the crew would be happy to have cadets tripping all over the department heads. Teaching is not their forte. Then you have to worry about your own crew not doing their jobs like they have been. Finally, the trip itself is a nightmare. Who knows what is out there between her and Avalon Station? I mean, I'll help in engineering, but you know my temper, so if I toss the cadets to the assistant CEO, he will have to teach them, and not get in my way," Katana said firmly.

"Assemble the staff for a briefing in an hour, please," replied James as he needed to inform the senior Staff of their new assignment, and he knew that some of them would not be happy with this but would understand.

"All department heads, please report to the briefing room in one hour. Try not to be late, please. Katana out". That settles that. Now the question is, what would they say?
