It had been too long since she'd set foot on the Churchill. Amelia Gordon was returning both to the ship and to Starfleet. She'd been back on Earth taking care of her mother for over two years. Amelia had resigned her commission at the time, not knowing if or when she'd be able to return. Her mother had finally succumbed to her illness and had been buried a month ago. When Amelia had notified Starfleet she was ready to return, they had made it sound like they would deny her request. But here she was, reduced in rank to Lieutenant JG, and assigned as the assistant to a department she'd been in charge of when she left. She was happy to be able to come back to the Churchill at all, so she was more than willing to take both reductions in stride. She'd get to know the new chief of science and help wherever she could. In fact, it was a relief not to be the one in charge.

The shuttle landed softly, and Amelia picked up her bag and waited with a couple of other occupants for the door to open before stepping out onto the deck of the Churchill once again.

After asking and being granted permission to board, she made her way through the unfamiliar passages of the new Churchill to the Captain's Ready room and rang the chime.

James sat at his desk awaiting the next new member of his crew. He called, "Come," picked up the hot mug of coffee that he had replicated, and took a sip of the brown liquid. As he began to lean back in his chair, the door to his ready room opened to reveal the next crewmember to join the crew.

The science officer stepped into the ready room. She held out the PADD with her orders. "Lt JG Amelia Gordon, reporting for duty, Sir." She smiled, finding it difficult to hide her excitement. She wondered if he even remembered her from a few years ago. Probably not. A captain has to deal with so many new crew members that they probably get forgotten once they leave the ship.

"Lieutenant Gordon, Nice to see you again," replied James, standing with his hands behind his back. He continued, "On behalf of House Stewart, we send our condolences at this difficult Time," hoping that she remembered that he was part of a Klingon House.

Amelia's smile lessened just a bit at the reminder of her loss. She took a deep breath and nodded, "Thank you, Sir. I am honored by the House of Stewart for your consideration. It was hard, but I am glad I was able to be with her and bring her some measure of peace at the end of her life." She straightened a bit before she continued, "I understand there is a new Chief of Science. I hope she won't find fault with my service return. "

"Yes, there is," replied James. He noticed she might be upset by this news. He continued, "It was a no-brainer as the Chief Medical Officer, and they came as a pair." He finished, "You will be reporting to Lieutenant Muffy Harrington and see to it that you have your Physical done as soon as possible."

Amelia nodded, a bit sad that she'd been replaced. Lord knew what happened to her labs. But she couldn't fault the Captain; he had to have good officers. "It's nice when you can fill two positions like that. I'll report to Lt Harrington right away," She grinned a little, "and I guess I'll have to have that physical right away too. It will be a good opportunity to get to know the new doctor as well." She took a deep breath. "It's good to be home, Sir. I missed being here."

" I hope you enjoy your time here, Lieutenant, and I hope you get back to where you were before," he said, leaning back in his chair. He continued, "Dismissed," as he had some more appointments scheduled.

"Thank you, Captain," Gordon replied with a nod of her head. She stepped back and turned the Captain to his duties. Her next stop was to meet the CoS, Lt Harrington.
